[Antelope] data storage, Long Term?

Hello,
	How many years are current data storage media good for?  Tape and
optical and magnetic disks degrade surprisingly fast.  Every time an optical
disk is read the laser degrades it a little.  We've heard after 5 years
optical disks have significant losses.
    How many years would you like to keep your seismic data?    We're aware
of some new technology that will last for around 100 years.  We'll research
this further.

Our current solution: we have ordered a Linux-based file server called 
the Relion 2712. It has 12x 1Tb enterprise-grade SATA disks at a cost of 
$180 apiece. Total cost was just shy of $5K. This unit has a connector 
that allows one to plug in an expansion enclosure with an additional 12 
drive bays, which can be populated with 2Tb enterprise-grade drives as 
they come available.

If you have a number of systems with drive space, you could also buy a 
bunch of 1Tb or 2Tb drives and put them on a Storage Area Network (SAN) 
system, which is a storage management and access system for distributed 
drivespace.
