Hello,
According to the information from BRTT support I am sending to antelope
users requesting information how to add local region to regions list
under Antelope. As we are operating Dubai seismic Network and providing
support to the local authority, the easiest way is to provide them the
local information regarding earthquake location and region name (for
example: in case of local earthquake in northern UAE or north of Oman,
the region from Antelope is Eastern Arabian Peninsula, also in case of
an earthquake at lat= 15.23, lon=51.57 which is near Yemen and Oman
borders the regions still is: EASTERN ARABIAN PENINSULA, 1177km from
Dubai)!!!!!!
For earthquakes in north UAE or Oman it appears in the website of EMSC
http://www.emsc-csem.org/index.php?page=current&sub=detail&id=130079
Oman-united Arab Emirate region..... I appreciate if you can help us to
update the region names by adding the region UAE to the region list....
My previous e-mail to Support at BRTT:
The defined regions under antelope/4.8/data/regions/grnames.fer
contain one big region Eastern Arabian Peninsula which includes UAE and
OMAN and parts from Saudi Arabia... I need to define the above two
regions by their names in the regions names to appear in the SMS alert
and the website.
Did I need to add the regions in the grnames.fer file only or
coordinates of the region should be add? in which file?
For example when an earthquake occurred inside UAE the region name will
be UAE.

Subject: Re: add new region
Hello,
BRTT uses the region names as adopted by the USGS, which do not always
correspond to political boundaries. In the 4.11 Antelope release, we
updated our data files and routines to use the most recent listing
available (from a 1995 USGS update). The list of regions available can
be found here:
http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/epic/fer.html
Note that the listing does not include the specific names you are
looking for.
From the man page for grnames, the files that contain data that you
might attempt to update include:
FILES
The data files for these routines are kept in the directory
$ANTELOPE/data/regions and consist of:
o qlindex.fer
o lonindex.fer
These two provide the mapping from latitude and longi-
tude to geographic region number.
o grnames.fer
contains the geographic region names, indexed by geo-
graphic region number.
o srnames.fer
contains the seismic region names, indexed by seismic
region number.
o srnums.fer
contains the seismic region numbers, indexed by geo-
graphic region numbers.
However, the structure of these files does not lead to easy updating.
We currently do not have any way to make those names available. You
might send an email to the Antelope Users Group because I believe this
has been a concern for groups from Europe and they may have implemented
a workaround. See http://antelopeusersgroup.org/ and send an email to
antelope-users at brtt.com. This goes to a wide audience and may point you
to in-house solutions that have may not been checked into the contrib
software.
